- Use tips and advice from others in your advantage
- Follow tips on social media

1. Surround yourself with expertise
Hire the right people. You don’t have to be a SEO expert to run a great e-commerce business. You don’t have to be a good writer to create your business website. Just connect to the talented people you need that can bring you business plan to life.
Know your strengths and weaknesses, and ask other people to do the tasks you’re not so good at.
2. Show your passion
Technical skills are great to run a digital business, but not a must. In most cases, it’s passion that makes a business successful. What is your passion? Show your passion on your website, social media and in other media. Passion convinces your potential clients. It gives that little bit of flair to any online business.
Show your passion and be amazed by the responses.
3. Ask techies for technical stuff you can’t do yourself
Note to self: you don’t have to be super technical to run a digital business. Just use technical solutions that are already available.
If we got one thing from the Covid pandemic, it is that companies incorporated new apps and services into their activities, and virtual communication is more normal than ever. Companies work with what’s best for them.
That is also my advice to you: work with what is best for you. Use the apps and digital solutions for the rest. And for whatever is left: outsource the technical aspects of your business you don’t really get.
There is always an expert to help you out, so you can focus on the things you’re good at.

4. Start a partnership
Everyone has his/her own strengths. When starting your own business, find yourself a business partner that complements your strengths.
You have your ideas and passion. To find the right tech business partner is a great compliment to your business that could help you to make a great start.
5. Use tips and advice from others in your advantage
This is a basic advice when starting your own business: always do your research. Listen to podcasts, search online for competition, read books and learn some basics of your business. The more knowledge you’ve gathered, the easier it will get.
Don’t underestimate starting a digital business. It’s just as difficult and challenging as starting an offline business. Success doesn’t come easily. The advantage of starting a digital business is that you can do a quick, easy but thorough investigation to your competition.
What is your competition doing? How are they doing it? Do they appear to be successful? How can you do it better?
Use this knowledge in creating your own digital business.
6. Follow tips on social media
Do you love to use a cheat in a videogame? Then use this cheat: follow social media pages and groups to receive free tips. These tips are like cheats.
For example: instead of spending thousands of dollars on coding software, build a ready-to-use WordPress website and use easy plugins.
When you come across a problem you can’t solve, these social media groups might be able to help you out. In return, of course, you can use your experience to help out other starting business owners.
7. Protect your online business
Online security is a growing business for a reason. Hackers are everywhere, just like damaging software that might take out your website or devices in a second. Without a website you don’t have a running business. So get your security together.
Standard website software mostly has its security in order. If you develop your own website, make sure your security is up in order to keep it safe for yourself and your clients. But also use virus software and malware software on your devices. Safety first!
8. Use free solutions when available
Not everything costs money, especially not online. It’s easy to find free stuff online.
You can, for example, use free YouTube instruction videos to build your own WordPress website. Or to improve your online visibility. Use these free instructions, tips and advices in your advantage. Especially when starting a business, it’s always good to keep your expenses as low as possible.
9. Use expert content
The same goes for experts, who happily share free content and tips. You’re doing it right now. Many experts share free content. You can watch their YouTube videos, read their blogs or subscribe to their emails. Everything to get free content from experts to help you on your way to build your digital business.
